Lebanon's First Bookstore

Ibrahim Tannous Sader opens "Al-Maktaba al-Umumiya" — Lebanon's first commercial bookstore, in Ottoman Beirut.

1886

First Legal Publications

Ibrahim moves from selling to publishing — Principles of Ottoman Criminal Proceedings is the first title.

1890

The Scientific Press

Ibrahim founds Sader's own press. Law, culture, and literature — under son Yusuf's supervision.

1908

The Sader Agenda

Yusuf launches the SADER Agenda. Still published, over a century later.

1921

First Compilation of Lebanese Laws

9 volumes, 3,800 pages. Acquired by the UN Library in New York and major American universities.

1921

The Judicial Magazine

The first legal magazine in the Arab world. Publishes the Lebanese Constitution two months after ratification.

1926

The Lebanese Constitution

SADER publishes the Constitution — the first republic in the Middle East — two months after ratification.

1930

Modern Delights Magazine

Adeeb Yusuf Sader founds the landmark Arabic women's literary weekly.

1946

Bridging Legal Languages

Post-independence, Yusuf translates Lebanese law from Ottoman Turkish into French and Arabic for the new republic.

1953

Adeeb — Among Statesmen

Adeeb builds the Official Press and earns SADER's place in Lebanon's highest governmental circles.

1970

Computer Typesetting

SADER pioneers computer-based typesetting in Lebanon, the first in the country.

1972

Lebanese Publishers Union

Adeeb co-founds the Union, shaping Lebanon's publishing industry.

1982

Joseph Sader Continues

Amid civil war, Joseph Adeeb Sader keeps SADER operational and expands the legal catalogue.

1984

The Press is Bombed

SADER's headquarters on the frontline is shelled. The archive burns. The institution does not stop.

1985

The Prophet — London Award

SADER's luxury edition of Khalil Gibran's The Prophet becomes the official gift of Lebanese heads of state.

1992

Laws of Lebanon — 33 Volumes

Joseph Sader rebuilds Lebanon's legal order. Adopted by the state, universities, courts, and bar associations.

1996

SADER Becomes an Author

Publisher → source of legal knowledge. The Sader Annotated Codes become the region's primary reference.

2002

Legal Informatics Collection

Print → electronic. Lebanese legislation on continuously updated CDs — the first in the region.

2003

Regional Publisher — UAE

SADER expands to the Emirates with Al Tamimi & Partners — the Laws of the Emirates collection.

2007

UAE Government Partner

SADER builds the UAE Ministry of Justice national portal and links the Official Gazette to legislation.

2010

LexisNexis Partnership

SADER partners with LexisNexis to launch the Lexis Middle East portal across six Gulf jurisdictions.

2013

SADER Lex & 150 Years

Lebanon's first integrated legal portal. SADER celebrates 150 years at the Beirut Bar Association.

Order of the Cedar & YSF

Joseph Sader receives the Order of the Cedar. Rany Sader founds the Youssef Sader Foundation.

The Arab world's first legal education mobile app — built by law students, for law students.

Middle East Sports Law
